MEN'S PSYCHOTHERAPY GROUP

I can handle a lot. Until suddenly I can’t.

A six-week psychotherapy group for men who may function well in much of their lives but notice that when distress gets high enough, something changes. In person in San Antonio or New Braunfels, or virtual. Pre-group fit screening required.

Maybe you explode. Maybe you shut down. Maybe you leave. Maybe you get defensive before you even realize you're doing it. Maybe you avoid the conversation altogether.

Maybe you numb out, disappear into work, your phone, gaming, exercise, sex, pornography, alcohol, or something else that gives you relief. Maybe you keep telling yourself you're fine until you're very clearly not.

Maybe you know you're hurting people you care about and don't know how to do something different when the moment actually arrives.

This isn't about teaching men to stop having emotions.

What this group is for

This group is for men who are not looking for someone to tell them they are overreacting, and not looking for permission to keep doing what they have been doing.

It is about recognizing what's happening sooner, increasing your ability to stay with difficult internal experiences, and creating more choice in what happens next.

Emotional regulation and distress tolerance are learnable, and they are practiced, not explained. Six weeks is enough time to notice your own patterns and to start changing what you do inside them.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Understanding isn’t the same as excusing.

Understanding why a reaction or behavior happens doesn't erase its impact.

This group makes room for both: curiosity about what is happening inside you, and responsibility for what you do with it.

Less shame does not have to mean less accountability.

OVER SIX WEEKS

What we work through, week by week

Each week builds on the one before it, while leaving room for what participants are actually living between sessions.

  1. 01

    Week 1. What Happens When I'm Not Fine?

    Recognizing your own escalation, shutdown, avoidance and relief-seeking patterns.
  2. 02

    Week 2. Catch It Earlier

    Learning the body cues, emotions and urges that show up before choice starts narrowing.
  3. 03

    Week 3. Staying With What You Want to Escape

    Building capacity to remain with difficult internal experiences without immediately exploding, disappearing, numbing, fixing or overriding yourself.
  4. 04

    Week 4. What Makes This So Hard?

    Exploring what particular situations become inside you without assuming in advance what your reaction means or where it came from.
  5. 05

    Week 5. When Other People Are in the Room

    Conflict, defensiveness, withdrawal, honesty, boundaries, tolerating someone else's feelings, impact and repair.
  6. 06

    Week 6. When It Happens Again

    Recognizing earlier signals, increasing choice, repairing when needed, and identifying what you want to keep practicing after the group ends.

THIS IS PSYCHOTHERAPY

What to expect, and what stays yours

This is a psychotherapy group. Participants will not be forced to disclose trauma histories or tell their life stories.

This is active treatment rather than six lectures. Expect guided reflection, experiential work, discussion, practice, and application to your own patterns. Participation in individual exercises remains voluntary, and you can pass, pause, or step away.

FIT & SCREENING

A brief screening comes before enrollment

A pre-group fit screening is required before enrollment. It is a conversation about what is going on and whether this group is the right kind of support right now. If it isn't, Sasha will tell you and help you think about what would fit better.

A history of anger, trauma, substance use, pornography use, or difficult thoughts does not automatically exclude anyone. Fit is determined individually.

This group is not designed to function as:

  • court-mandated anger management;
  • batterer intervention;
  • crisis stabilization;
  • a higher level of care;
  • specialized substance-use treatment;
  • specialized compulsive-sexual-behavior treatment.

VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION

Virtual enrollment is screened, not open

Virtual psychotherapy enrollment is not treated like an open, nonclinical interest list. Clinical jurisdiction screening applies, and eligibility is verified individually before enrollment.

If you join virtually, you must be physically located in a state where Sasha is authorized to practice at the time of each session. Residency alone is not enough if you are traveling and located elsewhere during a meeting.

Logistics and investment

The pathway is simple: start with a group consultation. If the group is the right fit, you'll move into enrollment and payment.
